Still recovering from Hurricane Irma two weeks prior, approximately 80,000 remained without power as Maria approached. On Wednesday, September 20th, Hurricane Maria made landfall  as a Category 4 hurricane with winds of 155 mph"


Hurricane Maria completely destroyed the Puerto Rico's  power grid, leaving all 3.4 million residents without electricity. Puerto Rico, home to more than 3 million US citizens, has grappled with widespread power outages for months since Hurricane Maria devastated the Caribbean island. Thousands remain without power as of May 1,st  2018. An estimated 40,000 Puerto Ricans remain without power since Maria hit the island, home to 3.4 million United States citizen residents as of April 25th, 2018.


Shelter Foundation is committed to assisting the affected communities of Puerto Rico rebound from the devastation caused by Hurricanes Irma and Maria, and becoming better prepared for the future.
