"By reducing veterans’ legal challenges and increasing their incomes—by securing veterans’ benefits, increasing workplace accommodations for veterans with disabilities, and stabilizing family law issues—we can help to improve veterans’ quality of life and impact their health."

Legal issues are often the greatest obstacles to a veteran’s health, housing, stability, and productivity. The rights of veterans, especially those of disabled and low-income veterans, frequently are violated. Proper legal assistance can help prevent evictions and foreclosures; help fight outstanding warrants and fines; expunge criminal records; ensure access to public benefits; assist with guardianship issues; clear up bad credit;  and help with various other family law matters, such as child support, child custody and divorce.

SHELTER Foundation has assembled a network of qualified legal professionals and legal nonprofit organizations to help reduce the burden of legal issues and ensure the legal needs for our fellow veterans are met.
